The Day I Fell in Love with Monochrome

“I never planned to shoot in black and white. But one rainy afternoon, I stripped away the colors and found a whole new world. It felt like coming home to a part of myself I'd forgotten.”

I never planned to shoot in black and white. It just... happened.

It was a rainy afternoon in Gurgaon. The kind of day where everything feels grey anyway. I was editing some photos, feeling uninspired, and on a whim, I pulled the saturation slider all the way down.

And the world changed.

Suddenly, I wasn't looking at colors anymore. I was looking at shapes, at shadows, at the dance between light and darkness. Every wrinkle told a story. Every shadow held a secret. It felt like coming home to a part of myself I'd forgotten existed.

There's something about stripping away color that feels like stripping away pretense. When there's no red to distract, no blue to soothe, you're left with pure emotion. Pure truth.

That day, I shot the entire evening in monochrome. The rain on the windows. The silhouette of strangers passing by. My own reflection in a puddle. Each frame felt like a meditation.

Now, years later, black and white photography is my sacred space. It's where I go when I need to slow down, to really see, to remember what photography means to me.

If you've never tried shooting in monochrome, I encourage you to try. Turn off the color. Let the shadows speak. You might just fall in love too.
