APARAJITA
Have You Seen Her Around?
“An intimate documentary narrating the untold stories of women at home across generations—exploring their invisible labor, societal expectations, and quiet resilience.”
The Invisible Hands That Hold Us
Growing up, our homes were always warm, the floors swept clean, and hot food waiting on the table. Yet, the woman who arrived at 6 AM, washed the dishes with blistered hands, and smiled through her exhaustion was completely invisible to our daily conversations. Aparajita was born from a deep sense of guilt and overwhelming gratitude. I wanted to step into her shoes, chronicle her silent footsteps, and give her dignity the grand stage it deserved.
The Tears in the Theater
Directing and editing this documentary, watching her delicate expressions as she spoke about her children’s dreams, changed me forever as a filmmaker. When the film screened and members of the audience wept, realizing they had never once asked their own domestic workers about their lives, I knew that cinema’s highest purpose is to awaken our dormant empathy.
Screened at independent film discussions, sparking heartfelt dialog on domestic worker dignity and social empathy.
